Our Therapeutic Approach


Cherry Gulch Academy is a private therapeutic specialty school in Idaho that helps boys from across America who have ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities such as: reading issues, writing issues, math issues, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Auditory Processing Disorder, Visual Processing Issues, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities and executive functioning issues such as distractibility, inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Therapeutic Philosophy

At Cherry Gulch Academy, we believe that students thrive when given therapeutic support in a way that is practical, tangible and meets them where they are. We believe in a highly relational model of therapy. Our therapists are actively engaged with the students in the milieu, participating alongside them in their struggles and in their successes. Joining and partnering with our students on their journey is critical to their success.

Individual, Family & Group Therapy

Cherry Gulch Academy students each work directly with their primary therapist to develop goals that are meaningful to the student in helping them move through adolescence and towards a healthy start to adulthood. Family participation and involvement is highly encouraged and supported at Cherry Gulch Academy, including weekly family therapy sessions and family workshops twice per year. Along with the family work and therapists working with students in the milieu, Cherry Gulch Academy students also participate in educational and experiential group therapy three times per week. Group therapy includes Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, experiential learning activities. and psycho-education. Psycho-education includes a range of subjects including executive function, self-regulation, social pragmatics, digital literacy, Collaborative Problem Solving, the Arbinger Institute’s “Anatomy of Peace,” Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and self-esteem, to name a few.

Psychiatry & Medication Management

Dr. Si Steinberg and his team are contracted to provide on-site psychiatry and medication management as needed for Cherry Gulch Academy students. Cherry Gulch Academy therapists, teachers, and staff provide Dr. Steinberg and his team members with feedback and observations regarding the student’s mood, behaviors, and general level of function to support medication management from a treatment team approach.
